Following the election of the EPP Group Presidency in the European Parliament, Joseph Daul, President of the European People’s Party, made the following statement:
“I warmly congratulate my friend Manfred Weber for his re-election as Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament. I also extend my congratulations to the Vice-Chairs who were elected this morning: Lara Comi, Esther de Lange, Mariya Gabriel, Esteban González Pons, Françoise Grossetête, Sandra Kalniete, Marian-Jean Marinescu, Paulo Rangel, József Szájer and Tadeusz Zwiefka. I am glad to see such unity in support of Chairman Weber and his team.
During the first half of its mandate, the EPP Group has been a driving force behind a European plan for migration and has delivered concrete measures for fighting terrorism, such as the Passenger Name Record (PNR) and the review of the EU Data Protection Directive. I am convinced that this new Presidency, under the helm of Chairman Weber, will continue its work in ensuring a secure future for European citizens. This security is first a matter of guaranteeing people’s safety; but it is also about providing them with economic stability by investing in small- and medium-sized enterprises, which create the most jobs, and by combatting youth unemployment. I am looking forward to continuing to work with the EPP Group Presidency and with all the representatives of our political family in the European Parliament in delivering results for the European people.”
